Head to Head v Roto Fantasy Baseball

One of my fantasy baseball leagues in embroiled in debate right now to switch from a head to head format to roto. In my opinion head to head is way more fun for 2 reasons – every Saturday and Sunday throughout the baseball season is exciting as the week wraps up and it’s much more personal with one opponent each week. The argument for a more traditional rotisserie format is that it’s more fair. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the NFBC which is roto format, but what really is fair? Wouldn’t it have been fair to give the Patriots the Super Bowl title because they had the better team all year???

Bottom line in the debate of fantasy baseball formats is this – I like chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Roto v H2H are both valid formats and fun for different reasons. I’m just a little tired of the elitist attitude by the roto proponents that it’s a superior format, it’s not – try and make that case to the New York Giants!

The Fantasy Man Show – Key Podcast for Fantasy Baseball Prep

Lately I’ve been catching up on a favorite of mine from last season – The Fantasy Man Show. He’s what you want in a fantasy baseball podcast host – I total baseball and fantasy baseball addict. Evidently he did 27 leagues last year and won 9 of them. Bottom line is unless you are an incredibly elite fantasy baseball player you can learn a lot from him. Unlike some other podcasts and publications, I really appreciate his frankness – he’s not afraid to speculate about steroid use or point out when a player flat out sucks. His recent podcasts have gone over his positional rankings and they’ve been an excellent refresher for the NFBC.

You can download podcasts from iTunes or his blog - http://ringers19.blogmatrix.com/

He has other goodies including his 2008 draft guide at Fantasy Baseball Express.

Johan Santana Jersey with Cool Base, Let the Celebrations Begin

I don’t think I’ve been this excited as a Mets fan since Strawberry got called up. We Mets fans are real baseball fans – because we suffer. I took last year’s melt down in stride, it happens. Some of my fellow Met fans are being cautious with their emotions toward the Johan Santana signing. This isn’t George Foster, this isn’t Mo Vaughn, this isn’t Frank Viola. This is the best pitcher in baseball by far in his prime locked up for 7 years. Johan Santana instantly makes the Mets the best team in the NL and is the perfect panacea for years of suffering and disappointment.

To celebrate I scored this Johan Santana All Star Jersey on the cheap on eBay – check out Jadgang’s store. So what if it’s got a Twins logo on it – just proves I’m an “old school” Santana fan. Since it’s orange, it still goes great at Mets games. Plus I’m hooked on the Cool Base jerseys, don’t know how I’ve survived without the whisking technology.
