The Mets Jonathon Niese (pictured Binghamton Mets minor league baseball card) cruised through 2 levels in the minors last year and at times looked good in the bigs. He's likely to start out in AAA but has a shot to earn the 5th rotation spot headed into spring. Where Niese lands will dictate whether he's a draft day target or a sleeper to watch during the fantasy baseball season.
The bulk of Niese's work came at AA where he posted an ERA of just over 3.00 and a whip of 1.30. He did K 112 batters in 124 innings which looks like it could translate to a solid K rate in the majors. Niese walked 44 batters which isn't great but not terrible either. His command ratio in AA would net out a around 2.5.
If you factor in some growth, believe the Mets will be a contender and like the much improved bullpen then Jonathon Niese is someone to watch this spring as a potential quality spot starter in fantasy baseball leagues.
